Kwame Building Group adds three team members

.ST. LOUIS, MO – Kwame Building Group (KWAME) has added three new team members: Junior Theolus as Project Administrator and Diversity Monitor, Patrick Jeep as Project Controls Scheduler and Chris Draper as Project Engineer and Construction Manager.

In his role as Project Administrator and Diversity Monitor, Theolus’ responsibilities include tracking contract changes, submittals and RFIs, creating presentations, managing, and maintaining project document control systems and processing invoices for several projects such as the St. Louis Convention Center and St. Louis Community College. In addition, Theolus is responsible for monitoring, tracking, and reporting the active involvement of Minority, Women, and/or Emerging Small Business (MWESB) firms to ensure project compliance for the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District. Theolus holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on Supply Chain Management & International Business from University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Draper brings more than seven years of experience in commercial construction. He is currently working on renovation projects for McDonald’s and Harris Stowe State University. Draper holds a Master of Science in Construction Management from NewSchool of Architecture & Design and Bachelor of Graphic Communications from the University of Missouri St. Louis. He has numerous industry certifications including OSHA 10, First Aid CPR AED and A D Lift Truck Forklift, Scaffold and Highway Construction.

As Project Controls Scheduler, Jeep is responsible for overseeing scheduling and coordination on various projects, ensuring efficient resource and manpower allocation and timely completion. He develops and maintains accurate project schedules, tracks progress and mitigates potential issues to ensure successful project delivery. Jeep brings valuable industry experience as a construction field technician. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus in Construction Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology and is a certified Engineer in Training (EIT). He has numerous industry certifications including OSHA 10, American Concrete Institute (ACI) Testing and Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) Aggregate Technician.

Kwame Building Group adds three project team members

.ST. LOUIS, MO – Kwame Building Group (KWAME) has added three new project team members with Davidra Smith as Accounting Manager, Lee Anderson and Tarun Kumar as Project Engineers.

Smith brings more than 25 years of accounting experience with a focus on the construction and commercial real estate industries. As Accounting Manager, she ensures the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting and analysis and provides company financial information to guide decisions about strategy. Smith holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Detroit College of Business.

As Project Engineers, Anderson and Kumar are responsible for assisting project managers with quality control, project budgets and cost reports, reviewing and coordinating submittals and RFIs, subcontractor management and maintaining communication with the client and the entire project team.

Anderson brings more than 25 years of industry experience and is currently working on runway projects at Lambert St. Louis International Airport. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Lincoln University and also served as a Army Engineer Officer.

Kumar has three years of construction experience focusing on multi-family, commercial and retail projects. He is currently working on Saint Louis Zoo WildCare Park project. Kumar holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Kwame Charitable Foundation Golf Tournament awards $60,000 in scholarships for first-generation, college-bound students

ST. LOUIS, MO – The Kwame Charitable Foundation has awarded $60,000 in higher education scholarships for first-generation college students from proceeds raised at the organization’s 19th Annual golf tournament. The scholarships provide resources for students who otherwise might not graduate from college, due to financial constraints. Kwame Charitable Foundation awards the majority of scholarships to historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), or multi-cultural initiatives that support students of color at PWIs (primarily white institutions).

Kwame Charitable Foundation to host 19th Annual Golf Tournament

Proceeds to fund scholarships for first-generation, minority college students

ST. LOUIS, MO – Kwame Charitable Foundation will host its 19th Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, May 1, 2023 at the Norman K. Probstein Golf Course at Forest Park. This year’s goal is to raise $105,000, which will fund scholarships to primarily historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), for students who otherwise might not graduate from college, due to financial constraints. The organization, which is the charitable arm of Kwame Building Group, was recently approved as a 501(c)3 public charity, with the official name of Kwame Charitable Foundation. As a public entity, Kwame Charitable Foundation can receive contributions from private foundations, public foundations, corporations, as well as individuals, throughout the year, to further support its mission.

Kwame Building Group completes construction on new $3.1 million segment of St. Vincent Greenway

ST. LOUIS, MO – Kwame Building Group (KWAME) has completed construction of a $3.1 million, 0.53-mile segment of Great Rivers Greenway’s St. Vincent Greenway, from Trojan Park to Robert L. Powell Place in Wellston, MO. Work included demolishing existing sidewalks along the route and replacing them with a 10-foot-wide, multi-use paved path. A small pocket park, including a raised platform that overlooks native plantings along the banks of Engelholm Creek, was constructed to replace a vacant lot. A MetroBus stop with improved seating was also added near the MetroLink tracks.

Two team members graduate from the SIUE Construction Leadership Institute program

Two Kwame team members, Project Engineer Michael McClain and Senior Project Manager Stan Richardson were among the 43 graduates of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Construction Leadership Institute (CLI), which celebrated with a graduation ceremony on Friday, March 10.

Developed by the SIUE Schools of Business and Engineering, the CLI provides the knowledge, skills and strategies that individuals and companies need in today’s challenging construction industry. Program Co-Directors Chris Gordon, associate dean of the SIUE School of Engineering, and Kristine Jarden, director of executive education in the SIUE School of Business, oversaw the ceremony.

Kwame Building Group oversees installation of public art exhibit at Brickline Greenway to honor 20,000 displaced Mill Creek Valley residents

ST. LOUIS, MO – Kwame Building Group (KWAME) has completed the first portion of installation of a new public art exhibit that will eventually link a one-mile stretch of the Brickline Greenway from Harris-Stowe State University to St. Louis CITY SC’s CITYPARK Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri. The permanent exhibit features art that acknowledges the 1959 displacement of nearly 20,000 Black residents of the Mill Creek Valley neighborhood formerly located at the site.
