MODOT – THE NEW I-64
The $535 million reconstruction of Interstate 64 in St. Louis from west of Spoede Road to east of Kingshighway Boulevard included rebuilding the pavement, bridges and 12 interchanges. One lane was added in each direction from west of Spoede Road to Interstate 170.
The original roadway and bridges in the Interstate 64 corridor were built in sections from the late 1930s through the early 1960s, and were in desperate need of replacement.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) contracted with Gateway Constructors on this design-build project, with MoDOT staff acting only in an oversight capacity to ensure compliance with the contractual agreement.
KWAME provided resident engineers and project inspectors to support MoDOT’s engineering team. KWAME staff also supported the project’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) and Workforce Diversity Outreach and Inclusion efforts.
