ST. LOUIS COMMUNITY COLLEGE – WILDWOOD
KWAME served as construction manager on the pre-construction and construction phases of the $18 million St. Louis Community College Wildwood Campus in Wildwood, Missouri.
KWAME was a key player in guiding the college’s efforts in advance and throughout the project to successfully achieve LEED Gold certification. KWAME provided overall project leadership and management, developed and maintained the master project schedule, project accounting and document control systems. KWAME also provided cost estimates, constructability reviews and design management.
The new campus includes high-tech classrooms, a science lab, faculty and administrative offices, an art studio and a bookstore. The rooftop was planted with 4,000-square-feet of sedum, a drought-tolerant plant that reflects heat in the summer and insulates the building in the winter. The facility is 30 percent more energy efficient than a typical code-compliant building of the same size.
KWAME oversaw construction of the campus using “healthy building” elements such as low emissive building materials. Other green features include ceiling fans to promote energy efficiency; artificial lighting that balances automatically to accommodate natural light fluctuations; an east-west solar orientation to utilize sunlight efficiently for heating and cooling; and a flared roofline that allows light into the building’s central atrium.
