ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI – The Houston Independent School District (HISD) Board of Education has selected Kwame Building Group (KWAME) for program management on $35 million of new construction and renovation work at four high schools in the Houston school district. KWAME, in strategic partnership with RPH Consulting Group and Arcturis, is one of five program management firms selected to manage projects funded by the District’s 2012 HISD Bond program.“This contract with the Houston Independent School District reflects our ongoing expansion and growth in new markets,” said Joshua Randall, president of KWAME, which is headquartered in St. Louis with offices in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, Pittsburgh and Seattle. “We are very pleased to provide program management services to the District.”

KWAME’s initial projects for the HISD Bond Program include the construction of two new $5 million Early College High Schools (North and South); nearly $4 million in improvements and MEP, safety and other systems renovations at Washington High School; and $21 million in projects at Worthing High School including a new 2-story classroom addition; improvements of safety/security, technology and MEP systems; roof and athletic track repairs; ADA compliance; cafeteria/kitchen renovations; and other capital improvements.

Planning and design work on the new and renovated campuses has already begun, with construction to begin in 2014.

The $1.89 billion bond program passed by the HISD in 2012 calls for $1.64 billion in major construction at 38 schools and another $252 million for other projects across the District. The overall program will take eight years to complete.
