SEATTLE-TACOMA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT – RUNWAY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

KWAME provided civil inspections and quality assurance for the $85 million reconstruction of the longest runway at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The project involved the comprehensive rebuild of the entire 11,901-foot runway, from pavement and infrastructure to airfield lighting. The runway is the oldest at the airport, built in 1944 at 5,000 feet long and extended several times. The latest previous overlay was in 1992. Concrete from the original runway was recycled on-site and used as the sub-base for the new runway, which consisted of 12 inches of sub-base, four inches of asphalt base and 20 inches of concrete. The six-month project was completed on schedule.
