MODOT – I-270 / I-70 INTERCHANGE REHABILITATION

The Interstate 270 / Interstate 70 interchange is the busiest in the state of Missouri. Due to deterioration of the bridges and ramps, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) decided to rehabilitate the interchange to better serve nearby businesses, residents and the traveling public.

The construction project included patching concrete spalling, demolishing and replacing an Interstate 270 flyover ramp support column, replacing expansion joints, half soling bridge decks, minor bridge beam repair, joint sealing, structural steel painting, milling and resurfacing approach pavement, drain basin and bridge drainage system improvement, guardrail replacement and pavement marking.

The work required lane shifts on Interstate 70 and the closure of Interstate 270 to Interstate 70 flyover ramps, with traffic detoured to alternate routes on several weekends.

KWAME managed the construction phase of the project, providing the project’s resident engineer and two inspectors who were responsible for ensuring the on-time and on-budget completion of this high-quality project.
